Thorpeness V Kings Head, Orford 20 over cricket match 24th may 2017

It is a tribute to village cricket when two sides of similar skill levels contest

on a warm summer evening. Thorpeness sports ground ticks all the boxes for a
quintessentially English cricket scene. Cricket has been played there since the
1920s.

Thorpeness won the toss and batted first on a slow wicket that had some of the 32mm of

recent rain. The batsman had time to punish the short ball but the outfield was
slow so the batsmen had to work for their runs. Thorpeness made 98 with
sterling contribution from R Thornton 27 G Byrne 25 and G Button 19. Kings Head
used 9 bowlers.

Kings and scored at 3 runs per over during the first 6 overs but accelerated. J Sueden 26 N Goldsmiths 26 and G Fryer 14. The climax of the game took and an unpredictable

turn as J Chandler claimed 5 wickets with his deceptively slow spin bowling
leaving G Button to take 2 wickets in 3 balls in the final over taking the last
Kings Head wicket.

A most exciting finish for all concerned with a Thorpeness victorious against the odds
